Welcome Josiah Lewis

Hello! My name is Josiah Lewis, and I am the seminarian assigned to St. Alphonsus this summer. My home Parish is The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, and I’ve lived in Lafayette all my life.

I grew up going to Catholic schools from K-12 doing all sorts of extracurricular activities like serving Mass, Boy Scouts of America, band, choir and acting in plays and musicals in high school. I heard the Lord’s call to the seminary right after my junior year in high school where I continued to discern this call until deciding to apply and enter after graduating in 2023. I have just finished my third year of college seminary.

I’m super excited to be with all of you this summer and I can’t wait to meet you! I will be helping as much as I am able around the parish whether that’s in different parish ministries or just shadowing Fr. Travis. Thank you for the warm welcome and I’m so excited for what the summer has in store!

Welcome Kathy Norton

Parish Finance Manager

Kathy is a mom of 3, originally from Phoenix, Arizona, who now lives in Carmel. They are active members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel where her kids have attended school and participated in youth groups.

Kathy loves accounting and has worked in that industry for more than 10 years. In her free time, she plays tennis, works in the garden, participates in a monthly book club and enjoys attending her family’s sporting events. Her family also loves to travel and explore the American west. In the photo, they are at Hole in the Rock park in Phoenix, one of their favorite places.

Living Generously Reflection

In the book “I Like Giving” by Brad Formsma, a woman tells the story of
William, a 67-year-old man who worked at her local Starbucks. One day, she
noticed that William had difficulty seeing. She continues the story in this excerpt:

I asked William if he had glasses. As it turned out, he had a pair but he had accidentally sat on them, and they were ruined. I had work to do, and putting off William’s situation would have been an easy choice, but I felt compelled to act. I called LensCrafters and made an appointment for 3pm that same day.

When 3pm rolled around, we picked up William from Starbucks and, with the kids in tow, headed over to get his eyes checked. The optometrist at LensCrafters picked up on what we were doing and showed special kindness to William. He confirmed that William’s eyes were, in fact, very bad and made a new pair of glasses for him.

We’re very happy to know that William will be able to see well again...Having the opportunity to help William get glasses not only gave me a way to practice giving, but because we knew him, it also fostered our relationship with him and our connection to our community.

So often in Scripture, we see Jesus cads of people immediately. He doesn’t often wait. In meeting William’s need immediately, I was attempting to follow Jesus’ model and was grateful to have a part in improving William’s life.”

What Time Works for YOU to Be a
Scheduled Adorer?

We need regularly scheduled adorers to be present with Jesus in the Eucharist in order to keep our Adoration Chapel open and move toward 24/7 adoration, a top goal for Fr. Travis.

What time can YOU personally commit to adoration weekly or monthly for a half-hour or hour? 1pm Sunday? 10am Wednesday? It will mean so much to our parish, as we have seen so many fruits from adoration, which Fr. Travis shares in the video above.

A Pastorate of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana

If you have previous choral experience, the SAL Adult Choir needs you! The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7p and provides music for two 10:30a Masses each month, as well as feast days. Sheet music and personalized rehearsal resources are provided. Join the fun practicing, laughing, and praying together – the choir would love to have you!
